December Graduates

by Stefani Lawless on December 11th, 2013 in Every Day Tips, After College, Finals

December graduates, it is almost over! Mixed emotions are possibly coming about: happiness, sadness and maybe a little scared to dive into “the real world.” Graduating in December has its perks, though. Companies enjoy being able to hire start of the year, and you still get a Christmas break. What is better than that?

Some of you may be happy to graduate, and some may be holding on to the next few weeks left in college. Get your last few favorite bar visits in and enjoy yourself. After your last final, you deserve a shot, or four. After all this has been accomplished, here are a few pointers on graduating in December and how lucky December graduates really are.

FOX Business states that December graduates have more of an advantage than normal May graduates. FOX’s two main points are that there is less job market competition and employers are seeking for their attention. Many companies, according to FOX Business, redo their budget around December, so it is the perfect time for new employees to start in January to fit into the yearly salary plan.

One tip FOX Business does give is to “cast a wide net.” Seek all opportunities. Don’t start limiting yourself to certain jobs because this is all just the beginning. Recently graduated students are lucky to have their whole lives ahead of them to find another job. Do not settle for something you do not enjoy, but keep all possibilities open until you feel like you can not take another interview. Keep an open mind and take all interviews even if you may seem to not want the job, it could end up being something totally different than you thought. The most miserable sounding job could end up being your dream one. Make sure to keep all these thoughts in mind when job searching. Congratulations to all December graduates!
