Post-Grad College Thoughts

by Stefani Lawless on February 09th, 2014 in Every Day Tips, After College, College Trends

This weekend I began to wonder how to deal with upcoming changes after college. Coming to a close in college is not only stressful but scary. Trying to find a job, wondering if you should move back in with your parents and how you will have income for your own are just a few things that pop into mind. So, in order to be successful in the job market, here are a few things I found through my research that can help other students feeling the same anxieties as I am.

1. Realize that finding a job is more difficult than you thought it would be. From my friends who are now alumni, I have found it took them much longer than a few weeks to secure a job. So my advice would be to start looking for your job now, not after graduation. It is a process to find your right fit.

2. You may have to live with your parents, and that's okay. Many post-grads move back in with their parents to save some extra cash or to regroup. It is best to figure out your whole plan post-college before you purchase a home or sign a binding lease contract. You don't want to be stuck.

3. Be positive. Many people have post-college depression. Leaving your home for the past four years is sad, but you will be moving onto better things. It may seem stressful now, but you will survive! (que Gloria Gaynor track)

Leaving college is starting a new era for everyone, so don't feel alone. If you are still a few years from graduating, enjoy it. As our parents would say, "time flies." But, really, it does.
