If you’re a bit behind on sharing your winter holiday gift list, there is still time to share your wish list items with your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, etc. There are several companies offering heavily discounted products, so why not take advantage of the post-holiday rush and look into certain items that you may have been wanting, but never had the urge to buy for yourself!

If you’re stuck as to what to add to your list, you can never go wrong with home/apartment decor items. Everyone can utilize a gift for their home and appreciate having a decorative or functional item to complete their living room, bedroom, home office, etc. (you included)!  Here are seven apartment decor gifts you should ask for as the holiday season wraps up!

  1. Houseplants: During the cold, winter months, anything that resembles greenery and plant life becomes dull and dead. The absence of plant life in addition to the shorter days and lack of sunlight can make each day feel dreadful and lackluster. Houseplants can be a great fix to the winter blues, and adding some lively green plants back into your life can make your apartment feel more fresh and vibrant. Houseplants are wonderful because there are so many varieties of them, but the most common ones include the Fiddle Leaf Fig, the Chinese Money plant, the Peace Lily, succulents, and Monstera Deliciosa. Succulents, for example, are inexpensive and loved because they come in different colors, shapes, and sizes. These unique plants have a long lifespan and can survive comfortably indoors year-round, regardless of the weather or season. Add a houseplant to your wish list and watch as your apartment is transformed into a comfortable, peaceful space.

  2. Coffee Table with Storage: Coffee tables are an absolute necessity in an apartment. They help to add flow and functionality to a space while remaining low profile. I think I can speak on behalf of most of us when I say that most people like multi-purpose furniture. Ask for a coffee table with storage to decorate your apartment while also keeping it functional. is by getting furniture that serves as storage as well. These types of coffee tables often have a shelf underneath or can open up for a chest-like storage option inside, making it perfect for storing extra blankets, games, books, and more. Additionally,  side tables with drawers or an ottoman that doubles as a footrest and storage are similar gift items that you can ask for!

  3. Blankets, Throws, and Pillows: Like many of the items on this list, blankets, throws, and pillows serve both a decorative and functional purpose in an apartment or home. Blankets and throws are great to snuggle up in while watching a movie or reading a book, while pillows add a soft, cushy feel to a chair or couch. These items can sometimes be basic, but you can really transform your space by asking for blankets, throws, or pillows with patterns on them to complement the color palette and theme of your space.

  4. Shelves: As we get older, our collections of books, figures, and other precious items need a space to be stored. While stacking books on the floor or having your figures in a pile may be the easy route, your items deserve to be displayed with pride! A bookshelf or set of floating shelves can store your items while also adding extra flair to your apartment. You can organize the items on your bookshelves by color, theme, etc., and make it a stunning standout piece.

  5. Smart Lighting: Nowadays, there are a ton of lighting options that can make your apartment look cozy and fancy. Smart lighting, ranging from light strips to smart bulbs, gives you the ability to adjust the color and brightness of your lighting from the comfort of your phone. You can change the brightness and color of the light based on your preferences or for a special occasion you may be hosting (i.e. red/green for Christmas or bright orange for Halloween).

  6. Visual Books: Who says adults can’t enjoy picture books? A nice picture book can not only be fun to look at, but it can also serve as a decorative piece on your coffee table or bookshelf. It will undoubtedly catch the attention of guests that come over, and spark a conversation!

  7. Coasters and Placemats: Everyone can benefit from a nice set of coasters or placemats for a dining room table. Coasters and placemats come in an endless variety of colors, patterns, and designs, and you can even get coasters and placemats with characters from your favorite books, movies, and TV shows on them.

  8. Candles, Wax Melters, and Essential Oil Diffusers: Candles add soft, warm lighting to a room while also providing a subtle scent that makes the atmosphere smell great. Similar to candles, wax melters can give your apartment a great scent while eliminating the hazard of having an open flame burn inside your place. These gifts are great to ask for and can make your apartment feel complete in any season.

Home decor gifts are sometimes difficult to think of, but they are something we can all use and appreciate. Ask for one of these items for the holiday season and watch your apartment grow into a beautiful living space!
