University Hill is a neighborhood located to the east of campus. It is bordered by Arapahoe Avenue, 9 th Street, Aurora Avenue, and Broadway. This neighborhood is home to many Greek life organizations, so this neighborhood is popular among students, especially those who are wanting a more social experience.

Gross-Grove is a neighborhood located directly north of campus and is bordered by Arapahoe Avenue, Broadway, Boulder Canyon Drive, and 28 th Street. It is home to a variety of shops and restaurants, making it convenient for students to live in. There is also a hotel nearby, which is perfect for when students' families come to visit, especially if student apartments are small. Other neighborhoods to check out include Transit Village, Central Boulder, and Whittier. Nearby towns for students to consider are Superior and Broomfield.

Dining

CU Boulder students have a wide variety of food options available to them, and these options may be included in the off-campus meal plans. For students who live in the Baseline Sub, the Bumbling Bee is a vegan junk food and burger bar that is located on 28 th Street. Students and other customers can purchase a Bumbling Bee keychain, which gives access to the restaurant's secret menu and grants the visitor a free cookie.

The Sink is in the University Hill and is known for its Sinkburgers, Ugly Crust Pizza, local and regional microbrews, and cocktails.

Another popular restaurant located within the University Hill neighborhood is Illegal Pete's. Opened in 1995, the restaurant's goal is to bring Mission-style burritos to college students.

Like many college campuses, the CU Boulder has a variety of chain restaurants located on or near campus. These include Coldstone Creamery, Domino's Pizza, Chipotle, and McDonald's. However, there are options for students wanting to try new restaurants, including Backcountry Pizza and Tap House, Snarfburger, and Bohemian Biergarten.

Transportation

Getting around the University of Colorado – Boulder is a main concern for students moving off-campus, and for CU Boulder students, there are several ways to do so. The CU NightRide is a nighttime service that provides free rides to students, faculty, and staff on campus and within the city limits of Boulder. Students can request a ride on the TapRide app or by calling 303-492-7233.

Many students choose to bike on campus and around the city. Students have free access to Boulder B-cycle, a bike-sharing program, and there are stations located on campus. Students may also choose to use electric bikes. These have some limitations on Boulder multi-use trails, but they are a great option for those who want to bike.

Many students may also choose to take the bus to campus, especially if they are commuting from nearby towns. Taking a bus is a great way to commute from home to campus, from campus to Boulder, or between CU Boulder campuses. Students can get a bus pass, which allows students to get free rides on busses.

Parking

There are a wide variety of parking options available, from parking lots to covered parking. For many of these options, permits are required. Students need to buy a permit based on whether they are a commuter or a campus resident. Permits are specific to lots or zones, so CU Boulder students should consider what works best for them. There is also an option for virtual permits, so students do not have to worry about printed hang tag permits.

Safety

Safety is crucial for all students, but it is especially important for students moving off-campus. As mentioned above, the CU NightRide is a safe transportation service that provides free rides to students, faculty, and staff on-campus and within the city of Boulder.

Shopping

Sprout's Farmers Market is in the Gross-Grove neighborhood. While this grocery store does not have student-specific discounts, they do have digital discounts that students can use to save money.

For students who need access to a pharmacy or the convenience of picking up a few things, there is a Walgreens located in the University Hill neighborhood.

Safeway is another grocery store option located near campus. This is a chain grocery store that allows shoppers to use coupons and earn rewards points for gas or groceries.

There is a Plato's Closet located near campus. This is a discount clothing store where shoppers can get great deals on name-brand clothing and earn money by trading in clothes they no longer need.

Other nearby stores include King Soopers grocery store, Joann Fabrics, Best Buy, Target, Trader Joe's, Natural Grocers, and REI.
